Utah

It's been a couple years since we'd been to Utah, and it was wonderful to reconnect with family and spend some time out there.

We were so blessed to have those days with Glendon in the hospital. There was a steady stream of friends and family who came to visit him there, which I know made him happy. The doctors said most patients get weakened by visitors, but Glendon's vital signs always improved when people came in the room--you could literally see the numbers jump. Glendon loved people. This is a photo of my dad and Bobette with two of her fun nieces.

Justin and I had a few days in Utah together before Mark and Brooke could join us. I couldn't travel with Brooke by myself because of my recent back surgery. Poor Justin had to entertain himself most of the time, but we did spend a really nice afternoon at This is the Place Heritage Park, which commemorates the spot where Brigham Young and the first LDS pioneers reached the Salt Lake valley. We walked around the little village, checked out the pioneer schoolhouse, and got some sticks of candy and Sasparilla.

We took Mark and Brooke back there after they came out. I am so grateful for the legacy of the pioneers and the sacrifices they made for future generations.

The kids enjoyed visiting the ranches. At the Johnson Ranch, Justin fell in love with this antique plow and spent a lot of time making me sit on it so he could "take us on a tour of the ranch." He named the plow Rusty Good.

But it was hard to top the experience of driving this Rhino around by himself. Well, he only steered it, but it was probably the greatest thing that has ever happened to him.

We also visited Castle Valley Outdoors, where people come in to do hunting, fishing, and wing-shooting.

We chased giant grasshoppers,

played with bird-hunting puppies,

and played with cousins.

On the way home we stopped by Castle Valley Ranch to see the horses and cattle. Brooke was enthralled with the cattle and mooed wildly the whole time. It was difficult for me to be at this ranch without Glendon.

Justin watched a cowboy lasso a horse and saddle him up. How many kids can say that? Thank you, Glendon, for sharing these places with us!
